I can play EA sports games online using my PS2 but I can’t connect to play other PS2 Online Games. Why?

I realize that there are companies that stop providing online services for their games. However, the games I am trying to play have just been released within the last few months. How can you find out if an online game is no longer supported?

The company run their own online server so if the games company stops supporting it then that those companies have stopped supporting online.
The games company run their own online play anymore.
