Do you have to play xbox 360 live games online?

I am picking out games for my brother for Christmas and he has an Xbox 360. If a game is an Xbox 360 online game does it have to be played online or can it be played by one player without messing with the online crud?

    There are no games that are strictly online… every single game can be played without going online.

    It really depends on the game. Read the back of the game you want to determine if you must play it online.

    I played Final Fantasy XI for a few years - there was no offline play. You had to be logged in at all times to play.

    This is pretty unusual though. Most games allow you to play against the computer, or have a story mode that you can play which don’t require that you be online to enjoy them.

    The store wondering myself someone in walmart did tell me that live is an option they can be played offline as well yipee makes it easier to pick out some cheap.
